LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE IN LOUISVILLE
Louisville is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the 29th most-populous city in the United States. It is one of two cities in Kentucky designated as first-class, the other being Lexington, the state’s second-largest city.Today, the city is known as the home of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), the University of Louisville and its Cardinals, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and three of Kentucky’s six Fortune 500 companies. Louisville is a significant center of manufacturing, with two major Ford Motor Company plants, and the headquarters and major home appliance factory of GE Appliances. The city is also a major center of the American whiskey industry, with about one-third of all bourbon whiskey coming from Louisville. The city’s architecture contains a blend of old and new. The Old Louisville neighborhood is the largest historic preservation district solely featuring Victorian homes and buildings in the United States; it is also the third-largest such district overall. Despite our country’s great debate on immigration, it is clear Louisville’s economy depends on it. Between 2017-2018, Louisville/Jefferson County would have lost around 2,026 people if it weren’t for the international migration that settles in the city every year. Without the international migration, Jefferson County would have lost 35.5% of its population from 2010-2018. With inclusion and diversity held to importance, learning a new language in Louisville is a way to connect to the ever changing culture of the city.
