LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE IN FAYETTEVILLE
Fayetteville is the third-largest city in Arkansas and county seat of Washington County. The city is centrally located within the county and has been home of the University of Arkansas since the institution’s founding in 1871. The city derives a cultural identity from the University of Arkansas, exhibiting many trademarks of a college town such as a prominent arts and music scene, emphasis on local businesses, college-oriented bar/restaurant entertainment district, progressive residents and a focus on environmental sustainability. Fayetteville also shares a passion for collegiate athletics earning a #15 ranking on Forbes’ “Top College Sports Towns” list. Fall 2017 enrollment reports indicate that 55% of U of A students were from Arkansas, 40% from out of state, and the remaining 5% from foreign countries. One unique fact about the Fayetteville School District is how its population is impacted by the diversity of students and faculty at the University of Arkansas. Fayetteville schools have a large population of students who listed Arabic as their home language, and the district’s number of students from countries such as Russia, Iraq and Saudi Arabia is larger than it is at any school district in the region. Through the diversity and culture that flourishes through Fayetteville, immersing into any language can prove to be beneficial to keeping the tradition of bringing people together in this beautiful town.
