LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE IN ANCHORAGE
Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, is in the south-central part of the state on the Cook Inlet. It’s known for its cultural sites, including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, which displays traditional crafts, stages dances, and presents replicas of dwellings from the area’s indigenous groups. The city is also a gateway to nearby wilderness areas and mountains including the Chugach, Kenai and Talkeetna. With the city just over a decade old, Anchorage was developed by happenstance when the railroads in Alaska were being built. The land was soon developed into a tent city where eventually, a townsite was mapped out. As air transportation and the military became important, Anchorage began to grow. A huge boost in the economy happened in the 1960’s when drilling for oil became the cities main economic engine. Anchorage holds true to its economic impact even today. It is a destination get-away and has been seen thriving in times where the rest of the US has been seen struggling. Years of constructing through Anchorage has turned tourists to natives, bringing culture and diversity to the city.
