Oklahoma City, officially the City of Oklahoma City, and often shortened to OKC, is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Lying in the Great Plains region, Oklahoma City has one of the world’s largest livestock markets. Oil, natural gas, petroleum products and related industries are its economy’s largest sector. The city is in the middle of an active oil field and oil derricks dot the capitol grounds. The economy of Oklahoma City, once just a regional power center of government and energy exploration, has since diversified to include the sectors of information technology, services, health services, and administration. The city is headquarters to two Fortune 500 companies: Chesapeake Energy and Devon Energy. The federal government employs a large number of workers at Tinker Air Force Base and the United States Department of Transportation’s Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (which house offices of the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Department’s Enterprise Service Center, respectively). Oklahoma City is one of the most diverse cities in the Oklahoma and its Hispanic population has grown dramatically over the years. 19.7% of the population, 128,000 people, in Oklahoma City are Hispanic. 7.37% of the overall population of Oklahoma are native Spanish speakers. 0.45% speak Vietnamese and 0.366% speak a Native American language.
